Spending most of my life in three countries – Nepal, Cambodia and Australia, taught in three different education systems – IB MYP in Cambodia, A level in Nepal and undergraduate in Australia, shaped by three cultures – South Asian, South-East Asian and Western, influenced by four religions – Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam and Christianity, soaking in the sights, sounds and smells of 10 different countries, I am what I am today.

My interest in art was so sudden that my parents were completely taken aback when I won a prize in a walk-through art competition in 2010. Over the past decade, I have explored the world around me through the eyes of my parents, sister, friends and tutors, experimenting with different materials and mediums.

The last ten years have been a roller-coaster ride, full of ups and down, thrills and frills, highs and lows, excitement and disappointment. All through the positives and negatives, especially during most of 2020 and till now due to the covid-19 and resultant lockdown, isolation etc, when I have been mostly alone by myself, I have matured and slowly emerged from the warm cocoon/shadow of my parents to become a confident person.

DHANVANTARI

This is a painting of my great grandfather, Achutananda Raj Vaidya, a royal ayurvedic physician praying to the Hindu God of Ayurveda, Dhanvantari, an avatar of Lord Vishnu. This was a painting displayed at my maternal house for 100 of years. This was the first painting that influenced me to become a painter and signaled the beginning of my artistic journey.
